Photography for the Internet is a completely different concept from taking pictures for an album or a publication.  The clarity of an image on the Internet is limited by the resolution of your screen and the size of a typical modem.  Most monitors have a resolution of 800x600 pixels so it is pointless publishing a photograph of a greater size than that on the Internet.  At the same time most people connect to the Internet through dial-up modems that allow a connection speed of 56 kilo bits per second (7168 bytes/second) so putting a picture of more than 100 Kbytes on the screen is going to test the patience of everybody.

Therefore you do not need to use incredibly expensive cameras to take good pictures for the web.  I use a Fujifilm 3 megapixel and a Kodak 1.3 mexapixel digital cameras but have taken a number of decent pictures with an Agfa pocket camera costing £70.

I will do a photo session for you as part of a first consultation for no charge anywhere on the Isle of Wight if you want me to make a web site for you.  If you want me to make a special journey then I charge £30 per session.

If you want a 9''x6'' print of any of my photographs then the charge is £10 per item (delivered including postage and packaging).

Below are some of my photographs that I have taken.  If you click on the images they will expand.  All of these pictures are free of copyright but if you wish to use them please link back to www.islandwebservices.co.uk.

Please note that all pictures have been optimised for the Internet to reduce download time.  There will be a reduction in the quality as a result.

Jason Bellamy and Tracy Attrill watching hounds on St George's Down - 18th December 2002.  Fujifilm
Westover Farm, Calbourne - 6th October 2002. Kodak

Casio PS20 Digital Piano - 6th August 2002.  Kodak

This image does not expand if you click on it.  The original has the background of the shop in it.

Almost all of the pictures on the Nick Sheppard Electronics web site is made up of pictures I took in the shop and then cut out using Microsoft Image Composer.

Kevin the Cat - 24th June 2002. Kodak

Kevin is as mean as he looks.

Osbourne House - Mid-Summers-Day 2002.  Kodak

This is in fact four pictures stuck together.  I have incorporated this into a virtual tour.

Westcourt Farm, Shorwell, 19th June 2002.  Kodak

There is also a PixAround animation taken from the same place.

Houses of Parliament - 9th June 2002. Kodak

This was after an almighty downpour but the sun was shining on Parliament and you can see the rainbow behind.

Blackwater Raft Race - 25th May 2002. Kodak

One of the more braver efforts on the reservoir at Blackwater.  Believe it or not this raft did not finish last.

Rascal and the Isle of Wight Foxhounds - 9th March 2002.  Agfa

One of those days when the colours really stand out.  Dukem above the kennels at Gatcombe.

Sunset over the downs above Gatcombe - 7th June 2001. Agfa
The Sun Inn, Hulverstone - 17th July 2001. Agfa

This pub is one of the most picturesque on the Island.  The weather is always like this on the Isle of Wight.  Honest.
